My 22 students need a few sets of 2018-2019 Sunshine State Books to foster their love of reading. With many social distractions, there are many things my students would rather be doing than reading.
Students today often lack a desire for pleasure reading.
Most of the daily reading in school for students today is the academic reading of nonfiction texts to gain information on a topic, complete a task, or analyze the text. How do we find a way to motivate students to read?
These books will continue to enhance the print-rich classroom that I strive to create. The Sunshine State Books are required reading for 3rd to 5th graders. By having these books, students are given the opportunity not only to read but to engage them in texts that are relevant for the FSA.
With these new books, my students will be engaged in book studies, guided reading, cooperative learning with an aim for students to learn those targeted areas tested on the FSA.
The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading. My students continuously show a high interest in reading Sun Shine State books and this project will only help enrich their experiences with the printed word.
