The joy my students bring me is unbelievable. I know there are many high poverty schools across our country, but I can't help but feel that our school has the best students who deserve all the opportunities that are afforded to richer schools.
A small charter is the perfect incubator for finding new ideas and finding new curriculum materials to see what works best for working with high poverty students.
These 95 students will benefit from the staff using these curriculum materials to learn all the best practices for teaching literacy.
My Project
These books will help me to continuously find reading strategies to work with every student. Even though I have a Master's in Reading and Literacy K-12, there are still a lot of things that I could learn about teaching reading and conducting interventions for grades K-6.
I am hoping that by acquiring these specific books, I will be more able to respond to specific needs that my readers have.
The Reading Strategies Book will provide 300 strategies that can be used with different age groups, while the two comprehension books will provide specific practice pieces. I have also included the Practical Guide for Tiered Instruction in the Regular Classroom because we are an MTSS school, and as the Title teacher, I am always looking for ways to support Tier 1 interventions, which means interventions that take place in the regular classrooms.
It's great to have more resources available to try with different students. I just know that every one of my students is capable of being a successful reader, but sometimes it's getting there that's the challenge!
