This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am a proud teacher of inner-city students. My school consists of students that receive free lunch and breakfast (100%). I am in need of books to build my class literacy center. Books will allow my students a chance to visit new places/adventures through reading. They will also be afforded the opportunity to build a love for reading. The students will also practice becoming fluent readers with exciting new books. Being able to take picture walks and read leveled books will help students feel a sense of Independence. My desire is to instill the desire to become life long readers.
My Project
The students will be able to increase literacy skills through books. New accelerated reading books will enable them to increase fluency, reading for pleasure/purpose, and to gain information for personal and academic use. Reading books daily will also help my students become fluent readers. Students will be able to research informational text. My students will also be able to apply basic word processing functions and proofreading. The student will research data using a variety of documents. Our school is an inner-city school and we are trying to bridge the literacy gap between home and school. It is our desire to ensure all students are college and career ready to meet global challenges.
