My Students

My students are an inquisitive group of 4th graders who are always ready to step up to the challenge, no matter what it may be. They are creators, writers, builders, thinkers and readers ready to take on the challenges of being an active learner.

They are an active group that is in need of an area rug to help determine their seating bubbles during discussions and small group work.

This group comes from a small town setting with big city dreams. Many of our students (67%) are on free and reduced lunch, but that statistic does not hold them back. They are eager to learn and build on their current knowledge. At times, they just need structured sitting spots to focus their attention and learning.

My Project

A large area rug in my classroom will help in creating 'spots' for learners and allow them to sit near peers to enhance discussions during class. It will define by literacy space.

I will be able to pair students and give them a specific colored square to sit on that is easy to remember and eliminate having to find a new spot everyday.

This will also help me in putting partners together that are like learners or different learners. A large area rug will help in creating additional structure in my classroom during discussions and presentations by students and guest speakers.
