My Students

We love to read - in Spanish - and we need books to satisfy our literary appetites!

We are a high-need urban public school, with 220 students held to high expectations by a warm, collaborative faculty.

I teach Spanish to pre-K - 7th grade students, including native and heritage Spanish speakers, so they represent a wide range of age and skill level.

My Project

Student understanding of Spanish language and culture will surge with this collection of 40 books, ranging in topic from traditional rhymes to weather, baseball to Sonia Sotamayor, Day of the Dead to quinceañeras. All books are bilingual or in Spanish, as the best way to learn a language is through immersion. Our current classroom library is bare bones, a collection of books I have collected on my own, supplemented by my weekly trips to the public library. It needs a big boost!

With 40 new books, students will delve into Spanish language and culture that is of interest to them.

Through your donation, students will have more options for reading when they finish work early, and all will benefit from story time tie-ins to the curriculum. In this multilingual era, our unique early-Spanish program needs your support.
