My students need more copies of Where the Red Fern Grows. We read this each year and the paperback books don't last long. I have some hardback books but need a few more.
My students are great. Since we live in a rural area, many of them don't always have all of the supplies that they need. Those who have more than they need are willing to help those in need. They are so generous. Last year a student lost his home to fire. My 7th and 8th graders came together to raise money and supplies for the young man who was in their class. They even got their parents involved by getting them to buy clothing and supplies needed by the family.
When ever I think of my students, I think of the words fun, loving yet challenging.
They keep me laughing. I never know what some of them are going to say or do. Every day is a new experience. One young man comes in everyday and hugs my neck. I'm always getting sweet notes left on my desk. Even though they are fun and loving, they can be challenging. This age group needs constant supervision and motivation. They want to learn but don't always want to put forth the effort. They are part of the modern generation who wants things instantly. They definitely keep me on my toes.
My Project
Every year I do a unit on Where the Red Fern Grows. Some of the copies of the book that I already have are falling apart. Many of the pages are missing. This makes it difficult for some of the students to read the entire book.
I need a few more hardback copies of the book to make sure each student has a copy that contains all of the pages.
More copies of the book would keep me from having to make runoff copies of the book. The LitPlan Teacher Pack would give me more ideas to engage the student's understanding.
