I am a first-year teacher at an urban elementary school in Central Massachusetts. I am thrilled to be teaching ELA (reading and writing) and social studies to two classes of 4th graders from diverse backgrounds. Fourth grade is an exciting time with great academic and social growth.
Throughout the year our classroom community will make memories and develop as readers, writers, speakers, listeners, historians, as well as American and global citizens.
Over the summer months, I am thinking about how I can best prepare to facilitate a memorable year of growth and learning. I look forward to meeting my future students and change-makers!
My Project
My goal is to create a classroom environment where students feel comfortable and can develop trusting relationships with me and their peers. Every class we will start with a community meeting, which will help create a classroom culture of respect and social emotional learning. A rug will provide the perfect place for this to take place! In addition, we will gather on the rug as a whole group for mini lessons and read alouds. Students will also use the rug as a place to complete work or read.
A 9 X 12 rug will provide us the space to develop as a community as well as independent and collaborative learners.
As a student-teacher, our classroom's rug was used throughout the day for many different types of learning activities. In the image to the right you can see students presenting their observations and inferences on a primary source to their peers.
The flexible seating options will help all students successfully engage in lessons!
The rug I have requested has a 10 year warranty so your donation will provide a comfortable place for students to work for years to come! I appreciate your donations of any amount!!
