Reading Rug for 5th Grade ELA

My students need a classroom that is colorful and inviting, and I want to use this beautiful rug as an area to gather for lessons and discussion to create a culture for learning!

My Students

I am moving from a position with the district back into the classroom, so I am new to my school. Over the years, I have passed on my teaching materials to other teachers, so I am starting over with an empty classroom. I have not yet met my students, and I anxiously await their arrival in August! I will be teaching 5th grade ELA in Florida at a Title I school, and I have heard that these students have strong perseverance and a very in-depth and mature view of the human life experience. I cannot wait to meet these kids!

My Project

My mission is to create a dynamic learning experience where every student has access to grade level standards through a positive classroom atmosphere. As I prepare for this mission, I am seeking to create a warm and inviting classroom that gives my 5th grade students a reason to want to come to school and a reason to want to learn.

A warm and inviting rug in my classroom will provide a sacred space where learning will happen!

I want the rug to be a central meet place where ELA, Writing, and our new social emotional learning curriculum can take place. During reading centers, students can also use the rug as an independent or cooperative work area. Thank you for giving to my project and helping support my mission.
