Help me give my students sensory tools to help them focus, new books for our classroom library, Velcro and lamination sheets to adapt books to make them interactive!
I teach some amazing students! Our classroom is a special education life skills classroom with students with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities. My students are extremely friendly and love to learn new things. The students require materials to be adapted for them to meet their unique learning needs.
Although these students are faced with different challenges, they work really hard to learn and to be the best they can be.
We have some real characters in the room and frequently are treated to concerts and dance-offs during the school day.
As a class, we work on learning skills that will help the students become successful adults. The students work on job readiness skills, social skills, and functional skills such as reading and using money to encourage future independence!
My Project
These materials will help my students continue to expand their world by reading as well as increase their literacy. To be successful readers and continue improving we need to have access to new books. Our class loves non-fiction and having access to the Action magazines would give them real stories at their reading level.
Did you know it takes multiple exposures of successfully reading a word across multiple opportunities to actually become fluent reading that word?
So how do we create multiple opportunities to see new words? You got it! NEW BOOKS! (and magazines)
We also love to move and fidget so we need something to fidget with to help us focus! Fidgets provide our class with the sensory input they need so that they can focus on what is going on in the classroom!
