Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Struggling to keep up with the other students in their regular classrooms is what my students experience every day. When they come to my class, they enjoy playing games, learning on their level and being successful.
My students are from a low socioeconomic area in Texas where some of them are learning English as their second language but all of them are below the grade level were they should be performing.
They attend an elementary school which services grades K through 5. I have groups in all grade levels. Some of them are struggling and in intervention to try and close the gaps they have in their reading abilities, and some of them have already been labeled as being dyslexic. We work on various reading skills such as phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary and comprehension using various methods in my pull out program. The students enjoy coming to work on things on their level and that target their specific needs.
My Project
I'm requesting some electronic resources to be used with our active board. The students really enjoy playing games and enjoy using electronic resources so these items would be a way to tie those both together. Some of the games I am requesting have several different skills put together in one resource as well so that will help to review several things at one time. I'm also requesting a site words search and find to work with the 1st graders on spotting site words quickly. These will help them in their every day reading as well.
This project is important because giving these students the most experiences we can with language and reading is very important to us as a school.
They don't always get to experience a lot outside of school so we need to make the experiences and vocabulary they learn at school as good and rich as we can. I'd love to have them learning while they play (and don't always realize they are learning).
