My Students

I teach 21 first graders who are excited to take chances, get messy, make mistakes, and learn every day. We love coming to school to see what new adventures await us each day. We are working hard to become readers, writers, mathematicians, scientists, and engineers. We are a work in progress, and we are going places.

My Project

My students are at the age where learning to read is an essential and critical part of their future learning. Unfortunately, the past couple of years have caused gaps in my students' learning. My goal is to have my children learn the tools to help them read, as well as develop a love of reading. We will use the magnetic boards daily as we work on new phonics skills. We are using the science of reading to help us become better readers. We will say, tap, map, and spell the new words that follow the skill we are learning. We will use the games as practice during center time to help us become better at blending, fluency, and accuracy, which is important for beginning readers. We will then be able to practice these skills through reading fiction and non-fiction texts. We are passionate about reading!
