My Students
My 2nd grade classroom can be found in a small district that borders a city suburb and a farming community. These students are eager to learn, thirsty for knowledge, and have big dreams. Focus can be difficult at times, but they have hearts of gold and wish to do well in any task at hand.
Like all students, these children are our future and I cannot think of anything else more important than their growth and learning.
They enter my classroom every morning full of energy and excitement and ready to take on new adventures and tasks. I find that keeping their attention has become more and more difficult with each passing year, but it does create a challenge to make lessons more interactive which I believe makes me a better teacher. They all have different backgrounds, needs, strengths, and challenges but in the end they all have one thing in common: they deserve a quality education.
My Project
As a teacher, we are constantly looking for best practice (in every way). How will my students learn best? What can I provide to increase not only what they learn, but their enjoyment of learning?
Students learn best through stories they enjoy and can connect with.
After purchasing a program with my own money by an amazing educator from Teachers Pay Teachers, I now need the books to support all the lessons. The program I bought comes with endless activities that not only teach the common core standards, but also life lessons on how to be a better human. All activities center on these specific titles. The students love the books and love the activities that go with them. They don't even realize they are learning! They cannot WAIT to come in on Monday to see what the new "book of the week" is, if I'm able to get it that week. Our school library has some of these books, but not all. Plus, all 5 second grades are using this in my school, and it is too hard to share checking out the books from the library amongst 5 teachers who all need the same book the same week. My students excitement gets diminished when we don't have the book. By funding this project, you would not only be helping the kids in my class, but it would benefit all 5 second grade classrooms in the building. The kids are eager to read these books every week, and I would love to provide a well rounded mentor text every Monday for them to learn from.
