My Students
I remember getting hooked on a series of books as a child. I would wait with anticipation and excitement for books to be released. Then immerse myself in reading the brand new installment in my latest series. My students share that same excitement and wonder waiting for and then finally diving into the newest books in their favorite series. My students are inquisitive, avid readers who are always looking to discover the newest adventures in their favorite book series or try a novel series that sparks their interest.
I teach in a Title I school in the Arizona valley.
I have students with all different reading abilities and foundations. My students come to school with unique challenges and strengths. Our school library has lots of books but I want my students to have access to their own books without waiting. My students have a love of reading and and I want them to have access to the best books possible. Reading is the foundation for success and a love of reading opens doors to the future for my kiddos.
My Project
The books I hope to receive will continue to enhance the print-rich classroom that I try to create. My classroom library is a place that my students really enjoy. They preview books, follow series, and get to borrow them too! Every student book that is placed in my library is treated with love and care, and my students are thankful for the opportunities to read. All of these books have been chosen with my students in mind. I have watched the series such as Dork Diaries, Bad Kitty, and I Survived! my students follow and want to keep them engaged with more choices. I have also taken surveys asking what type of books they would enjoy reading. Students will be able to choose books, which will help them continue to enjoy independent reading time.
With these new books, my students will be able to choose from a variety of books that will allow them to read independently at their own grade level.
Every student can enjoy reading once they find the right book for them. They want to choose books that interest them. The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading. My students have always shown an amazing interest in independent reading, and this project will only help enrich their experiences with the printed word.
