My students need 25 TIME For Kids magazines and a nonfiction book set.
Extra! Extra! Read all about it! As a child I remember my parents reading the newspaper daily over a morning cup of coffee. It was through them that I grew fond of reading real world articles and information. My students have not yet discovered the importance of reading nonfiction text.
My students come from a military town.
There are always people moving in and out and parents going away. They are eager to learn but need certain materials in order for that to happen successfully. They attend a school in which everyone works hard to ensure the success of all students. We want nothing but the best for each and every child at our school.
I am requesting 25 subscriptions to TIME For Kids Magazine and a class book set for my students. They are in need of these items in order to learn about the world around them. For many of my students, the world revolves around the town that they live in. They have never traveled to far away places and do not realize the importance of global studies. I want to support my students and teach them about the world, however, I would not be able to do that without help.
New doors will be opened for students as they are actively engaged with reading nonfiction titles through the magazines. Their imaginations will be enhanced and they will start to see the importance of knowledge of the world. It is imperative that my students receive these magazines. Without them, I fear that my students will not be globally conscious nor understand the importance of learning about the world around them.
This project is meaningful to my students because it opens their minds to endless possibilities as they are beginning to learn to read.
It will help them to be globally aware citizens as well as help them to understand what is going on in the world around them. This will have an impact on their lives in that it will get them to enjoy reading and begin thinking - thinking about how they can give back to this world and how they can change it. I know that this can make a difference in their lives.
