My students are growing and learning in a small, tight knit, school community that allows them to each have a strong voice. They are dreamers, thinkers, talkers, and questioners. They are mini inspirations to themselves and others around them, even if they don't know it yet. They are world travelers, scientists, entrepreneurs, doctors, engineers, teachers... They are our future, and I want to give them the best start that I can to a successful life.
Many of my students have experienced trauma in their lives.
Our school serves students with a range of disabilities, including intellectual disabilities, emotional disturbance, autism spectrum disorder, and specific learning disabilities. Vermont small schools are taking a hit when it comes to budgets. Our classroom budget has been reduced to less than $200. It is becoming harder and harder to purchase items for the classroom that would benefit the needs of all of the students.

My Project
These books will continue to enhance the print-rich classroom that I already have. My classroom library is a place that my students really enjoy and value. I am hoping to add to our current collection with some new titles that students have expressed interest in. Every student book that is placed in my library is treated with respect and students can't wait for another chance to read independently. Students will be able to choose books, which will help them continue to enjoy independent reading time.
With these new books, my students will be able to choose from high interest books that will allow them to read independently at their own reading level.
They will also be able to choose books that they enjoy. The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will help my students become better readers. My students already have already made incredible gains in reading this years which is evident in test scores, and this project will only help enrich their experiences with the books provided.
