This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are fun loving, innercity, fifth graders. Our school is located in a low-income neighborhood in downtown Las Vegas. Many of them speak English as a second language and come from very large families with diverse needs.

These amazing students, while low-income and English language learners, are some of the most driven, compassionate, and hard-working young people I know.

My students often express to me that our school is their favorite place to be. They feel safe and secure in the classroom and look forward to attending class each day. It is important to me to provide them with an exceptional learning environment, equipped with exceptional tools and the resources they need.

My Project

A comfy place to read is a must in the classroom. With many ELL students our class library is one of the most important parts of our classroom. As a teacher who loves literature, I am in need of a new reading area to share my love of reading with my students. We currently have tons of bean bags but would love a rocking chair to enjoy class read aloud time.

There is nothing better than curling up with a good book.

This cozy rocking chair will be utilized in my fifth grade classroom library where students browse books, work in small groups, and read together. It will provide cozy seating for students and the teacher.
