My students need books, including stories from Geronimo Stilton, Step into Reading and Heroes in Training, in our classroom library!
"Reading takes us away from home, but more important, it finds homes for us everywhere." -Hazel Rochman
My students are at the crucial place in their educational careers where developing a love for reading is a necessity!
My students are in the upper grades of elementary school.
The students in my class are reading on different levels and have all different interests. At this age they are very excited to learn but also developing their own personalities and feel empowered when they get to select their own books. These are the years that grabbing their attention as learners is extremely important and developing a love for reading is so imperative to prepare them for the future. My students don't have the parents that read at home to them every night and they need the resources to discover their love for reading. I teach in a public school located in a low income neighborhood in NYC.
Each day different students have the opportunity to "shop" in our classroom library for new chapter books that they would like to read. Unfortunately, our selection of books isn't that wonderful. With a limited selection, it is hard for the students to grow a genuine interest in reading. The books I have selected are for a variety of learners, interests and reading levels. They include fiction novels, fantasy and realistic fiction, several non-fiction books from the "Who is" and "When was" series, that are graphic novels about history that capture the students interests. I also tried to include lower level books such as Judy Moody and Frankie Pickles to get my lower level students interested in comical stories, because thinking about myself as a struggling reader, it was always nice to have comic relief. Please help make "book shopping" an exciting experience in my classroom!
Please help my students by donating these books my classroom!
They will be greatly appreciated and well loved my a community of learners. These books will be a valuable tool in our classroom!
