This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My school is in a high need area serving inner city students with various developmental barriers. Our students are lacking in their reading skills and need a lot of support to become fluent readers. Because of the community we service, we have realized that many students do not have access to printed materials outside the school and in many cases are not engaged in anything academic outside of their classrooms.
We strive to be creative and different in our approach to learning. Helping our students to become critical thinkers and academic achievers is our main goal.
My Project
One area my students struggle the most with is reading. I'm requesting reading materials that will help students overcome this struggle and be great readers. Students will not only learn to read but read to learn.
Reading is a fundamental skills that gives students the confidence to do better in other content areas. The additional reading materials will help students develop the skills need to be fluent readers. It will provide the opportunity for small group instructions and learning experiences. Students enjoy Bingo and other board games and will learn a lot from them. Help my students reach their goal!
