Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Teaching gifted students is very similar to herding cats! They like to go in all different directions and they all feel as if their way is the only way.
Gifted students think outside the box and they are happiest when they can be creative!
When students are able to complete projects and show their creativity, they flourish and succeed.
I love teaching these kids and I wish that I had unlimited funds to buy them the materials and products they love to use when they complete assignments or projects. Unfortunately, my school is a Title I school which means the kids don't have the money to buy items they need to succeed.
My Project
Sometimes we just need a safe place to sit and read. Right now all I have are two broken bookshelves in the corner of my room. I have ordered items to make it so much more comfy for my students. It will be such a welcome area they won't want to leave.
When my students are ready to do their silent reading, they are going to love to sit on the comfortable bean bag chair that I have ordered.
This will be on the opposite side of the reading nook where I will place the padded bench seat for more students. Next to them will be brand new bookshelves to hold all the exciting novels they will want to read! All of these items will be on top of foam squares to make the flooring more comfortable as well.
When my students come to school I want them to feel as comfortable as possible when they are reading, to encourage them to read more. I'm hoping that with these purchases, the students will want to come to school and especially to my class!
