Our kids are awesome and deserving! In spite of often tough beginnings, they come in everyday and are excited to be here. In fact, they don't want to leave. Our after school programming is fresh, exciting, and encourages life-long learning opportunities. I support that by staying open after school hours as often possible.
All of our students are deserving of educational and high-interest materials.
We need to support them with the best of what we can offer as a caring community and as society as a whole.
Our Title 1 district can be described as an inner-city suburb. As such, we have the best and worst of both identities. For several years now our administrators have focused on providing our deserving kids with increased access to technology, renovated learning spaces, and updated curricular materials. This level of renewal takes some time. In the meantime, other budget areas have had to take a back seat. Financial support for the libraries is one such area.
My Project
Our students have chosen the requested books and sets that are of interest to them. The best way to increase reading ability and literacy is to read more, and these books will continue to encourage reading and improve their comprehension.
This project will continue to support my students interest in quality, interesting, and educational print materials.
While we have an electronic catalog of materials, very few students are interested in reading them. Our kids truly prefer the printed books and I'll do what I can to support the love of reading in any form. This will go a long way in helping our library in its Reading Rejuvenation!
