I work in a reading recovery program in a school in Brooklyn, with students who are reading below their grade level. I want to make sure that they get up to speed. I work with individual students from every grade, but the majority of them are in first grade.
Fifty percent of the students at my school are at or below the poverty level.
My students love to tell and listen to stories, but they need help improving their reading skills.

We need more fiction and non-fiction books for our reading recovery library.
Literacy is connected to all of our content areas. Unfortunately, getting the right books is a big challenge. My students read at different levels so I need books that are at each student's level to be able to scaffold their learning.
Having fiction and non-fiction books will support all learning areas and teach my students to appreciate the world of learning that reading brings.
