My students need a new subscription to the Scholastic Action Magazine for next school year. These magazines are used in many ways and have helped my students a lot.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My high school is a low income school with about fifty percent with low/reduced lunch. Most of the students in my classroom are on free lunch and can't afford some of the basic school supplies. My students work hard and love working together with others in the school. We are separated from the other students in a corner of the school, but the students take it upon themselves to go out and talk to general education students as much as they can.
I teach students in a high school setting with disabilities. The disabilities range from a mild cognitive to students on the spectrum.
I have students from 14-22 years of age, meaning students can stay with me for up to about 7 years. In my classroom we cover each subject, community jobs, and other life skills curriculum subjects. Since I can have the same student for 7 years changing the way my classroom is run changes quite often so that those repeat students don't get bored.
My Project
My students have been reading these for the past two years. I have struggling readers in my room but with these magazines they are able to read real life stories.
The scholastic magazines are very useful and teach many different skills to my students.
We use them in order for the students to read at their level, but also for them to get news that they are interested in learning about. They are then able to see different reasons for something to be written through the use of news stories, short articles, or even plays.
Another way that these magazines are used is with the new vocabulary words that my students are able to learn. We read and go over all of the magazine words while reading the stories all month long. This is reinforced during each story throughout the month. At the end of the month my students take a vocabulary test. Although the words are tough my students take it with pride and try really hard. These magazines have been great at reinforcing reading and learning new vocabulary words in my classroom.
