My students need Storyworks subscriptions to read stories that build on their interests and comfortable beanbag seating to read in a relaxed environment.
A typical day in my classroom is very fast-paced. Students come in and we read stories, both informational and various literature. Students interact with the text to comprehend what they've read. They are given various differentiated tasks to meet their learning needs.
My students come from various backgrounds.
I have many learning needs in my classroom. Some struggle with comprehension and fluency. I try to find engaging texts based on their interests, so that they become lifelong readers. There are over 1000 students at the school where I teach. They all have different interests, and come from many walks of life. I want to provide the best possible learning opportunities for my kids, so that they can feel relevance and a personal relationship to show that I care about their academics and learning needs.
My Project
With a Scholastic Storyworks subscription, I know students will enjoy the stories and activities because the issues are geared towards the interests of 5th and 6th grade students. I would integrate the reading subscriptions into my curriculum so that my students learn the standards using up to date reading material that keeps them interested and engaged.
With the bean bag chairs, I feel this would allow students to engage in the text in a comfortable setting. I like for my students to feel free to read throughout the room and not stay limited to a metal desk all day. I allow them to sit on the floor with their shoes off many times, just to give them a sense of comfort while they read.
I requested a pencil sharpener because this is one item that teachers simply can't have enough of with the amount of traffic that comes in and out of my classroom, I have a total of 65 students who have to sharpen pencils consistently throughout the school day.
The donations will improve my classroom in giving my students the best learning opportunities for reading.
Students will develop into lifelong learners and readers. I feel that the seating arrangement will give students the freedom to sit comfortably while they read, and help them enjoy reading in a comfortable setting.
