Reading Princesses!

My lower elementary students need 20 picture books about princesses in the school library.

"Where are your princess books?" Upon beginning a second career as an elementary school librarian, this has been my most popular question during the first month of school. Princess books are the popular choice of beginning reading materials for many girls in preschool through second grade. Getting children hooked on reading through interests they already have is key to continued reading success and, hopefully, to creating lifelong library users.

When I began gathering our princess books in the library, I realized that we did not have nearly enough of them to satisfy these young readers! The girls keep asking and I must keep telling them that they are already checked out to other readers.

If we could have 20 more princess picture books on an easy, beginning reading level for our library we would have some happy readers who will eventually branch out to other reading areas as they grow and learn. Unfortunately, this year, due to economic situations, we have no book budget for our library with which to secure these resources.

Your assistance will help these eager young readers, and the young readers of years to come, have a larger selection of their favorite reading materials and support their developing reading habits.
