My Students

My students are coming from a newly joined Alpha Public School, CAP. My students are coming from various backgrounds of Vietnamese, Filipino, and Latino. They are in an underserved neighborhood and community where Alpha charter schools found a need to support.

Alpha is a charter formed in response to a group of parents in East San José who wanted better options for their children.

Intent on creating a high-quality public school, several activist mothers approached John Glover, founder of Alpha, to convince him to help them fund a public charter school. They created one that would help their children acquire the academic skills they need to go to college and thrive, to which my students are on their way!

My Project

My students need texts at their independent reading level! Please help support their literacy growth.

During reading power hour we read texts on many levels as my students are reading at STEPS 4-12.

These texts include Frog and Toad, Cam Jansen, and Kevin Henkes' texts. I want to use these popular titles in order for students to access books that are relatable and applicable to their lives.

These books are great resources to help my students practice specific skills such as character perspective, motivation, and feelings. They will help my students' love of reading and skill in their literacy practice.
