This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are eager to learn, want the best out of life and have started believing in themselves. Unfortunately, some of their home-lives are unstable and; therefore, they lose many of the books that are sent home every day. Our day is filled with reading, writing and problem solving.
I want my students to have the same privileges as those who attend school across the city.
My school is a Title I school where most of the students have free or reduced-price lunch. We are a uniform school and many come unprepared every day without notebooks, paper, pencils, glue, scissors and etc. I don't want my students to go without anything. They are no different than other student who want to learn and have the best materials. I want to be able to provide resources for them to use at school at all times.
My Project
My students need newsprint to practice handwriting, reading trackers, Close reading early readers, and fluency comprehension partner scripts to help with reading. With the Fluency Comprehension Partner Scripts, my students will build fluency and comprehension skills as they read high-interest passages together—then quiz each other on what they’ve read!
Plus, each folder features a self-checking slider card with corresponding questions designed to reinforce comprehension skills.
Students simply take turns reading the highlighted parts of their scripts then ask each other questions. I have other students who need handy trackers to highlight one line of text at a time so they can focus on reading without being overwhelmed! Handwriting is a must in my class. The Kindergarten newsprint paper is perfect for building beginning printing skills.
