Reading is a life time adventure. However to embark upon this adventure books are needed. Our small classroom library has not received any new books for at least 5 years due to state budget cuts. Books are falling apart from being read too many times.
My kids deserve to become readers.
They come from a variety of home environments. Many do not have reading materials at home and school is their only source for printed material. They come in to my class at various reading levels with many reading at 1st grade levels. I have found that my classroom library does not have sufficient books for the below grade level readers. These students are the hardest to capture. As third graders they are at a critical turning point in their education. It is my job to motivate, encourage and empower them with tools necessary to be successful. Reading is that tool. Imagine the joy of holding in your hands a new book at your reading level. A book that has never been read by anyone else. My students deserve this opportunity.
My Project
There is nothing better than to see a child's smile of satisfaction and joy when they have finished reading a book. They are so proud they glow with confidence and are eager to choose their next adventure. I want to give my children the opportunity to finish a book. These requested books will provide this opportunity to my students. These books are meant to capture the imagination of my beginning readers and give them the tools they will need to build their own future
It is crucial for our young learners to have materials now, in their hands, that will lead them into a bright educational future.
