My classroom consists of between 15 and 25 students between kindergarten and 5th grade. My students have a variety of intellectual and developmental delays, cognitive disabilities, speech, hearing and visual impairments, behavioral deficits, social and emotional issues and varying levels of anxiety and sensory issues. Most of my students have dyslexia, learning disabilities, autism or ADHD.
My students work very hard and require many modifications and accommodations to allow them to be successful at school.
They need extra time, many opportunities for re-teaching and for material to be presented in a variety of ways to allow them to process and retain the information. They have to put in extra effort but it is amazing to watch them make growth in their learning. My classroom provides an environment which allows all children of all abilities to learn and grow.

How do you give a student who struggles in reading the tools to be successful in all subject areas???
Having access to a C-Pen will provide my students an opportunity to increase their independence and raise their confidence.
This portable, pocket-sized “pen” will allow my students to be involved with every assignment with their general education peers. The headphones will allow them to use the pen in their classroom without disturbing their peers. It will allow my students the independence to not have to rely on another student or teacher to read an assignment to them. This pen will read their text without the student needing to ask for assistance. Allowing them to feel more confident and make growth in their academic achievement.
I was thrilled to receive my first C-pen through DonorsChoose.org this year. I had stumbled upon an article about this amazing device that was created to help people with dyslexia. I had never heard of a C-Pen but was very enthralled by it's possibilities in my classroom. After receiving it and introducing it to my students I now know what an amazing tool this is and that each of my students would benefit by having access to one in their general education classroom as well as in my room. I am now writing to add a second C-pen for all my students to have access to in the resource room with a goal to add more that can be used by each student in their general education room.
