Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

Reading can help you think outside of the box. Help my students think about what it means to be an outsider while reading the novel, "The Outsiders." I teach 7th grade communication arts at a high-need public middle school in Missouri. About fifty percent of my students are two to three grade levels behind in their reading.

There are very few classroom sets of novels available at our school that interest my students. The novel, "The Outsiders", is easy for my students to relate to and make connections with themselves and the other student groups.

We need a classroom set of 30 of the book, "The Outsiders", the audio book and the movie. These resources will help to differentiate instruction and allow all students to understand and appreciate the novel.

Your help will ensure that my students have the opportunity to read and analyze a novel this year while practicing communication arts skills.
