This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students come from various, colorful backgrounds and I'm trying to instill in them the value of reading. We have a new textbook, but I'd like to study a few books they can easily relate to and understand so they're encouraged to create their own libraries and expand their reading outside of school. With all of our end of the year assessments being online, my students also need to get accustomed to completing assignments via the computer to optimize performance.
My Project
Reading is one of the most powerful weapons in a student's tool belt. They have to sharpen and master how to use it to their best advantage. The more they read independently, the stronger and more powerful their reading skills will be in the classroom. If I add more interesting and popular titles to my classroom library, they will have more choices and opportunities to choose from. The end goal is to display a diverse, popular and interesting library for my classroom that will motivate them to initiate their own personal libraries at home. Success is achieved by reading one word at a time.
