My Students

H.M. UCLA is located in an urban area of South Los Angeles. The demographics of student are Latino and African American. Embedded into our common core curriculum is a focus on mental health and self care lesson as many of the students come from foster care, trauma afflicted and homeless families. While the students are encountered with questions and experiences relevant to all middle and high school students our focus is to prepare them for college and coping successfully an every changing society

My Project

Students can create hands on projects and also use materials (LEGOs) for individual deescalation and ADHD techniques. Scholastic Scope magazine is an excellent resource which had not only reading materials relative to today’s current events but also has theatre, plays, language arts practice, teacher project ideas as well as video links that students can use for project resources and information. I’ve used this in the past and it greatly impacted the classroom lesson in a positive way . Additionally it made the book load lighter for students going home day to day.id love this resource. Teachers and students can apply critical thinking skills through discussion which greatly impacts the vocabulary and writing abilities in cross curriculum studies. The multi level assignments are great for ensuring all reading levels are successful
