Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Literacy changes the way students view school. Reading is hard for some students especially if they don't have a strong foundation in reading. Kindergarten is an important grade for learning literacy. I want my students to have a strong foundation in literacy so they can grow to be fluent readers.
My students are from a Title 1 school, most of my students are on free or reduced lunch.
Their parents may not always be able to provide literacy experiences for their students. Their time at school needs to be even that more meaningful and they need hands-on experiences that help them retain what they are learning.
They are typical five year olds who learn through play and through doing. They are very active and love learning. They want to learn and that is what is great about this age.
My Project
When my students start Kindergarten, many of them don't know their alphabet or how to write. The Find & Write Alphabet cards and Getting Ready to Print and Practice will help with identifying letters and writing. The Phonics Train set will help the students in identifying beginning sounds, ending sounds, and rhyming sounds. Rhyming can be very hard for some students to master, so they need all the extra practice they can get. The Hippo and Tiger Alphabet Puzzles will assist the students in putting the alphabet in order, identifying the alphabet and differentiating between upper and lowercase letters. Picture Word Match will help the students learn to sound out, blend and spell CVC words. The Capital and Lowercase Giant Magnets will be used to introduce alphabet, differentiate between capital and lowercase, and to spell words that the students can see easily.
All of these items will be used during small group, whole group and station time.
Reading is the most important thing for these students to learn.
If they learn how to read then they can do anything. I want my students to have a strong foundation in literacy that will lead to a life long love for reading. With your help my students will have a greater foundation and love for learning and reading.
