Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are thankful that despite the trials and turbulence around them, our middle school students love to read. But just think about how much more reading they could do with instant access to thousands of books!

The 800 middle school kids we teach live in a tumultuous neighborhood, which is only getting worse as their parents struggle to keep jobs.

We want them to know that not only can reading help them escape their reality, but that we are here to reward them for it. Last year we started the "Read Your Way to College" contest and had more kids reading than ever before. We want to keep the momentum going this year.

My Project

Rewarding the top reader in the school with a brand new Blackberry Tablet, similar to an iPad, will not only give them access to thousands of free books, but will broaden their education horizons in ways the walls of our school building never could. I know we will create some voracious readers if we tell them the prize at the end of the year is this awesome piece of technology.

So many kids in America have the latest iPod, iPhone, and, if they are really lucky, an iPad.

Our students will never come close to receiving those kinds of gifts. Please help us reward them after a year of diligent reading with this amazing prize.
