Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach second grade in a Title I school in California. My students are a diverse group of learners who speak a variety of languages at home. One thing they have in common is a kindness and commitment to learning together with their peers. Classroom visitors compliment them on how kind and helpful they are to each other.
My students work well together, especially studying science in our school garden.
They are inquisitive and active learners. They love opportunities to be outside and to be physically active.
My Project
Making mistakes is an important part of learning. Without mistakes, we can't grow. Unfortunately, some of my students come to school with the idea that mistakes are things to be embarrassed about rather than seeing them as opportunities for learning.
My students love our daily read alouds.
It is an important part of our daily routine and I have found that it is also a great way to support important concepts. I spend time at the beginning of the year introducing the importance of having a growth mindset, that we are all continual learners through ongoing effort. These high quality picture books will help support the idea of mistakes as learning opportunities throughout the rest of the year.
