Reading Our Way Through Social Skills

My students need books that teach life skills to be used with social skills lessons.

My Students

My “firsties” love to move, learn, and experience new things. This group of kiddos have a huge desire to be creative and have no shortage of imagination to fuel them. Whether it be during recess, centers, or even transition times; their creativity flows and makes my job so much more enjoyable.

Our school, and second home, is located in an inner city, low income area.

Over 80% of my students receive free lunch. The families in this area struggle to fulfill basic needs. I am always happy and excited to see my students succeed despite their obstacles and struggles outside of school.

My Project

Weekly, my class has class meetings to learn about social skills and how to deal with the adventures of life. For many of my students, this is the only character development they hear and I want to equip them with strong social skills for the tough times in life. These books will be paired with social skill lessons that I have already purchased. Students will be able to hear and see these characters growing and learning through these books.

Some of the skills these books with reinforce are: perseverance, being yourself, kindness, being free, point of views, being respectful and friendship.

I truly believe my students will grow into better citizens with strong social skill lessons. By supporting this project, you are helping students grow into their best selves.
