My Students

"The things I want to know are in books; my best friend is the man who'll get me a book I ain't read." -Abraham Lincoln Second grade students should read twenty minutes everyday. My students have access to books at school but need reading materials that they can take home without fear of fines.

My student are bright, intelligent, urban and economically challenged.

They are motivated readers that I want to support in any way possible. I would like to provide them every opportunity to read in order to build upon their foundation of academic success.

My Project

My student could benefit from Scholastic magazine because they are not permitted to take library materials home. A personal copy of a magazine would allow them to practice their reading each night and help them qualify for our Book-It Read Your Heart Out! challenge each month.

Reading is an essential and the twenty minute reading practice is research based.

For every year that a person spends reading, either independently or being read aloud to, their lifetime earning potential goes up considerably. For a time investment of approximately 87 hours a year (20 minutes a day for 5 days a week), you can increase a child's ability to support him or herself in the future considerably. I want my students to be as successful as possible.
