Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My student are mostly from Hispanic and migrant families. They may come from a low-income family but they highly value education. While my students are usually learning a new language and have parents who do not speak or read English they want to learn so bad.
Strong readers lead to strong leaders.
My students work very hard all year on reading. We read from many different genre's through many different types of reading activities. Our goal by the end of the first grade year is to be fluent readers usually a variety of strategies to help us comprehend what we are reading.
My Project
Many of my students are second-language learners, 80% are from Hispanic and migrant families. Many of these students receive free breakfast and lunch. The non-fiction leveled books I am requesting vary from kindergarten to first grade level. These books will help my students learn to read in their second language of English as well of give them information about a variety of topics such as, sounds, animals, communities, and landmarks.
The donations to my project will help my students learn to read as well as give them valuable information about various topics while building their confidence as heir reading ability increases.
The non-fiction leveled book will help build their reading ability by starting out with basic words and text that build as they work their way through the books.
