My students are preschool age, 4 and 5 years old. Despite the many challenges they may face before coming to school, they are eager to explore and learn. The students are at-risk, young children from various demographic factors, cultures, home environments, and low socioeconomic statuses.
They are limited to educational experiences outside their home.
With creative and meaningful activities, the students can show pride in their efforts. Head Start promotes school readiness for children in low-income families by offering educational, nutritional, health, social, and other services.
Our students are in need of Read N Go bags for our lending library in our classroom. The students will use the bags weekly to take home books and weekly readers to read with families.
Our lending library will build literacy skills of everyone in the home as they explore a variety of books and kid magazines together.
Its important that we continue to build pre-literacy skills in the classroom and at home. When parents read to young children it creates a thirst for knowledge which leads to developing creativity,
imagination and a language rich learning experiance in the home.
