This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a second grade, special education teacher working in a self-contained class setting. My students are very sweet and enjoy coming to school every day. My students come to school every day ready to learn!

For most of my children and many children in my school, school is very important for them because it is the only stable place for them.

Most of my children come to school, then go to an after school program, then go to a babysitter's house before they go home to their parents.

My Project

I am building a warm and fun environment for my students in my classroom. My students have very low stamina and focusing skills when it comes to reading. My students enjoy reading on the carpet while laying down but I believe having them sit on a comfy couch will remove them from being on the floor and having them build stamina and focusing skills while sitting. Having them read on a comfortable couch should increase their stamina and focusing skills while sitting so when they do sit in their chairs, they are able to transfer those skills. Creating a warm and fun environment increases students' learning.
