My students need a great reading spot. My goal is to have an inviting reading corner in my classroom, complete with comfy bean bag chairs, fuzzy rugs, and lamps.
Port Aransas is a small, tight-knit beach community on the Gulf coast of Texas.
The families of this town are close--very close.
Most families have lived here for what seems like forever, and I have the privilege of teaching amazing students at our local high school. Two blocks from the beach, we have a very unique lifestyle on the island. The students are driven, motivated hard-workers who love as hard as they live. They are exceptional athletes, National Merit Scholars, phenomenal artists and musicians, and "Port A" has town pride like no where you've ever visited.
If I have learned anything from living through Hurricane Harvey, it is that the community of Port Aransas is a family and we can persevere through anything.
My Project
I am hoping to create the ideal reading oasis in my classroom!
I want my classroom to have the go-to spot for reading in the high school!
The perfect reading nook has fuzzy rugs, comfy seating, and warm lighting (not the normal florescent lighting in the room). My goal for the next school year (and beyond) is to have a dedicated reading time each week for my freshmen and having the perfect spot to read in makes all the difference! Inspirational posters, anchor charts, and string lights in across the ceiling will give a homey touch to my classroom, turning reading into something the kids "want" to do instead of something they "have" to do!
