This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have 140 students eager to learn Spanish. I teach in a small community in San Diego county. My awesome students are monolingual English speakers who are on a journey to acquire a new language and in the process widen their horizons about the world around them through multicultural learning.

This is a 2nd year Spanish class; after one year of strong academic growth, these kids are ready for more.

In this class, they will widen their understanding of the world through multicultural learning.

My Project

These novels will help enhance my students' language acquisition. It is proven that reading accelerates language learning and solidifies students' usage of the language.

What is the point of studying Spanish, if after years of study, one cannot really use it?

Reading is the answer!

Language learning is changing from grammar-based instruction to a comprehension model. Reading is key in that shift. We want to make sure that our learners can read, write, speak and listen in the target language. Reading facilitates all those processes by increasing vocabulary proficiency and the acquisition of grammar structures. Our goal is true proficiency.
