Help me give my students the opportunity to become expert readers. I am excited for all the kids to have a reading notebook of their own and some great books for independent reading time.
The kids in my class are 8 and 9 year olds who are hardworking, motivated students. They have been learning Mandarin Chinese since first grade. They are a close knit group of kids who have been together for 3 years, so they almost have sibling like relationships. It is fun to see how they work together and challenge each other to do their best.
They know how to work hard and rise to the occasion of being challenged.
They love to read and are excited about learning new things.
My Project
I am really excited about giving my students the opportunity to become expert readers this year. 3rd grade is such a pivotal year in learning that reading should be enjoyable and not just a chore that you have to check off your list.
I will be doing the Lucy Calkins reading program where they each need to have their own notebook to record their reading and the things we are learning as part of our language arts curriculum.
They each need to have a writing notebook where they can write down their thoughts, connections, and takeaways from the books they are reading.
I also want a few more book club selections for the kids, and as always some great non-fiction titles for the kids to choose to read.
