My upcoming 7th grade students are very unique. I previously taught this same group while they were in PreK and then again in second grade. I now have the special privilege of teaching them in middle school.
This group is very competitive, driven and focused.
They have always excelled at any academic task, and strive for excellence in a variety of areas of their lives. This project will only help them continue their pursuit of academic excellence while exposing their thinking to non-traditional solutions.
Finally, this group can go beyond the traditional learner, and I believe it would be shameful to not encourage this group in a more rigorous opportunity to promote growth.
My Project
I would like to purchase a class set of the book, Ender's Game. This book is extremely dynamic, exciting and takes many unexpected turns on the road to victory. Compassion and thinking outside of the box brightly shine through in a world filled with fear and uncertainty.
I would like for my upcoming 7th graders to read this novel over the summer (to prevent the Summer Slide), and to notice how it is never too late for compassion!
When students return to school for the 2019-2020 school year, we will then discuss and dissect the different elements of this book and the author's purpose and theme. Students will be able to see how thinking outside of the box and going against the flow are always beneficial in solving problems. Regurgitating answers, can never do this!
