Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My class consists of a diverse group of learners. My classroom has 26 second grade students from varying abilities. The socioeconomic background of our students is more than 95 % free/reduced lunch. I teach in an urban inner city school rich with diverse cultures from all over the world. Most of my students need additional learning materials to meet grade-level expectations. Our school saying is Better today than yesterday! Better tomorrow than today! I want to make their tomorrow better!
My Project
Having a reading nook in the classroom will allow my students a place to enjoy a good book.
A Reading Canopy on either side of my library will allow students to relax and share stories together in a special place.
Kids love canopies because they transform a normal space into something extraordinary! I will take these canopies and attach them to the ceiling on either side of my classroom library areas with the Ceiling Hooks to create special nooks to enjoy a good book. I will use the red polka dot seat cover to have students lounge out together under one canopy and the blue star seat cover will be used at the other canopy area for more lounging in the nook space.
Making my classroom library inviting to young readers is key to helping them become successful life long readers.
I love to find cozy spots around my home to sit and relax and read a good book. I hope you will help me to create these cozy nooks for good books for my second graders in our classroom!
