Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are hard-working, curious little minds. We have recently opened a new school, and items that are normally available in a school are not this year due to the funding of the building. We have recently requested a Reading Rug through DonorsChoose, and we have been blessed beyond measure. We have enough in the account from the previous project, that I can create a new project and add to our Reading Corner.
Our school has opened a new dual language program.
I do not have many bilingual books to share with them. I have also been using a chair in the classroom to prop their big books on during reading time. It is for this reason that I would like to create this Reading Nook Bilingual Books project.
My Project
As I mentioned before, I have been propping my Big Books on a chair, and often times, it slips off. I would like to start guided reading groups, where the students read the Big Book of the week, but they will not be able to keep the book propped against the chair. For this reason, I have added a cart where I can prop my Big Book on. This cart also has compartments in it that will allow for me to keep materials handy that we will be using that week. The cart has table top, that will allow me to place my MacBook on, and roll around the room, so that I can teach and make round to each student without interrupting the flow of instruction.
As part of the project, I am requesting several bilingual board books.
I am hoping to expand the bilingual book collection that I have to help give the students more access to dual language books. Thank you again for all of your support.
