This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Many students seem to lack the joy of reading. My school is located in one of the lowest socioeconomic neighborhoods in California. Our school draws in students from all across town, most of which, don't have parents who read to them.

I have the pleasure of teaching reading to my entire grade level so these books with be used by 100 students this year alone.

My students range from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, and experienced backgrounds. For me to be able to bring them together, reading the same book and having book talks is a dream.

My Project

I want my students to learn to enjoy reading. I want them to experience the way books can take them to places they never thought they could go. I long for them to become so immersed in a book that they don't want to leave my class. Reading needs to be fun!

This will help them to increase their reading and vocabulary skills.

With these books my students will have the opportunity to experience literature circles, walk and talks, and art projects. This will enable them to increase their verbal communication skills as we discuss what we have read in these books.
