Mrs. Bordas from Myrtle Beach SC is requesting Books through DonorsChoose, the #1 classroom funding site for teachers.

Reading My Way to College

My students need 30 books to learn to read fluently and pass college preparatory exams that could benefit them in getting Life and Hope Scholarships in South Carolina.

Inner city students are striving to break the poverty cycle. I teach grade eleven, English. This grade is a confusing grade for those who don't think that college is an option. I am working to raise comprehension levels so that students have better chances of receiving scholarships and grants to obtain a road to college and a road out of poverty. My high school is inner city, multi-cultural, and filled with students that need to "break the cycle" of poverty. These students are reaching for a chance and I want to help them obtain one.

My students want to learn, they want to be successful, and they need these books to continue their path of literacy. These students are bright, they just need someone who cares and the materials to work the reading project.

The resources that these students need are books. We need books of all interest levels to be able to invoke an interest in each and every student. We need a variety so that we can teach the students to step out of their own comfort zone and open up their minds to learn more.

With the help of donors, we together can help to educate our future teachers, business men and women, plumbers, electricians, and maybe even our future president. Their future is in our hands, and I am reaching out for supplies for tools to strengthen the minds of our teenagers.
