I am so excited to be opening a brand-new elementary school this year with my colleagues! Our students come from a very diverse cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds. My students love to read independently, and the also love to hear literary favorites. We read throughout the day and focus on many genres of texts including story books, chapter books, child-friendly news, poetry and much more. My goal is to help students sustain a passion for reading and develop a habit of reading each and every day!
My Project
We have a huge need to bring volumes of rich, high-interest sets of literature into our classroom. While I personally own many books, my collection alone is not sufficient to meet my first graders needs. My students read from Kindergarten through 3rd grade levels and your donation of books will help me meet their diverse needs.
The students in my class have a wide-range of interests and reading levels, and the texts selected here will give my students the opportunity to read more and more and more!
This will support us in becoming life-long readers. By reading multiple texts by the same author, students will develop a love for the characters and notice authors' strategies and craft as writers.
