This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Have you ever faced a daunting challenge - one that seemed insurmountable? Teaching the novel To Kill a Mockingbird is one of those challenges that can't be accomplished without your help - we need a classroom set of that classic literary novel for our English I class.
These mostly 9th grade English I students are from a poverty rural area of Louisiana.
Approximately 95% of the student body is on free lunches. My students cannot afford to purchase their own copies of a novel, and the school's library does not have a classroom set of these available.
My Project
We will be covering a comprehensive unit on tolerance, prejudice, and bias. This novel will be the core piece of this unit, which will also include a major expository writing component. While students have personal experience with bias and prejudice, they may yet have determined alternative means of tolerance and acceptance. These we will explore in depth. Hopefully, my students' eyes will be opened and their lives changed.
You can be an integral piece of this life-changing project.
With your donation, we will have a classroom supply of these incredible novels. Our journey to enlightenment can begin. Won't you please help us? My students and I will be forever grateful.
