This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My classroom consists of students with various reading abilities. In order to differentiate to meet this challenge, we need supplies of reading material at various levels. Due to our school being a Title I school, many students face disadvantages in learning. Approximately three-fourths of our student receive free or reduced-price lunch.
All of my students enjoy doing hands-on activities, especially those that are related to science.
They enjoy doing interactive notebook activities as well. Reading and math interactive activities also inspire them to make great effort.
My Project
Reading occurs throughout the daily instruction. The more students read the better readers they become. Having access to the needed resources is essential. Books of varying levels encourage students to read independently.
Following along as stories are read to them enables students to hear fluency.
As students select books to read for enjoyment, struggling readers will gain confidence in choosing a book to listen to as they follow along. Listening to text without background noises will motivate students to listen to more stories. Text of more complexity can serve as a means of challenging the student to interact with more grade-level-appropriate words.
